Every day, one line from the classics finds you. Underline the one that lands and it stays in your notebook. No endless feed, no pile of notifications — just one line a day.
Each morning brings a single line from the classics. You read it and close the app; there is no feed to scroll.
Draw a red line under the one that speaks to you and it is saved to your notebook.
Choose one of five designs, create your card and post it to your story or send it in a chat.
The app opens in your phone’s language — English, Turkish, German, French or Spanish — and falls back to English anywhere else.
There is no server and no account. Your line is with you on a plane or deep in the subway.
Lines are shuffled separately on every device, so the same one will not come back for months.
Free forever: today’s line, three lines in your notebook, two lines from the Anthology and the Paper card design.
Plus unlocks: the full Anthology with search, an unlimited notebook, all five card designs, the widget and every new line we add.
No payment is taken when the trial starts. The annual plan begins after three days. Even if you cancel, Plus stays active until the end of the third day. Prices vary by country.
Every line comes from a public-domain work first published in 1929 or earlier. Where a work was written in your language you read it in the original — Hugo in French, Goethe in German, Cervantes in Spanish. Everything else is Underscore’s own translation, and every card credits the work the line was taken from.
